Northern Stage at St Stephen’s

This August Northern Stage is going to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival…and we’re going with them!  They’ve curated a programme of work that is ‘Made in the North of England’, which includes our critically acclaimed, Manchester-based story, Once in a House on Fire.  We’ll be there from Saturday 11 – Saturday 26 August at 2.40pm, surrounded by a programme of exciting and diverse theatre from the north.

Once in a House on Fire is a raw and distinctly Mancunian true story about three sisters growing up in the shadow of poverty and domestic violence, by Sarah McDonald Hughes based on Andrea Ashworth’s memoir.

In a 1970′s Moss Side terrace, Andy and her sisters are determined to make their family’s lives better. As their mother descends into hopeless self-destruction and a succession of stepfathers, Andy leads her sisters’ escape through stories, dancing and dreams of the future. An authentic, evocative, uplifting and extraordinary story about ordinary people. Nominated for Manchester Theatre Awards for Best New Play and Best Studio Performance.

We’ll be based in St Stephen’s, a beautiful Georgian church, in the heart of New Town. To get there from Princes Street you just need to walk down Frederick Street, which turns into Howe Street, which turns into St Vincent’s Street which turns into St Stephen’s Street (visible from as far up the hill as George Street).
