New dates for Stars Are Fire in January 2013

14th December 2012 by Martin Gibbons

Monkeywood Theatre are returning to The Library Theatre’s Re:Play Festival for the second time, with Stars Are Fire, a new play written by Francesca Waite. This Re:Play outing follows the success of Last Orders two years ago, which went on to a Best New Play nomination in the Manchester Theatre Awards 2011 for the Manchester-based company. Stars Are Fire first premièred in the 24:7 Theatre Festival 2012, to 4 star reviews and nominations for Best Production in The Co-operative Group’s Audience Award and Equity’s Vicky Allen Award.

Stars Are Fire is the story of Carly, a teenager who moves from her home in Manchester to her Dad’s hometown in Northumberland following the death of her Mum. As her Dad seems able to just get on with things, she struggles to settle, desperately missing her mum and her home. Then she meets Lou, her Dad’s weird cousin who’s never left Northumberland, and she wonders if he can help her make her escape.

Stars Are Fire is the first play by Francesca Waite, who is also the company’s Co-Artistic Director, to be produced by Monkeywood Theatre. It is also their first collaboration with director Liz Postlethwaite. Liz explains why she got involved, “I have long admired the work of Monkeywood so I’m really excited to have the opportunity to work with them again on this project.”
