“It was New Years and I was all ready to go and get lashed. I don’t know why I did the test then but I did. I couldn’t wait. And there was just one line so I chucked it but then Dylan looked at it again, he had to get it out the bin, and there was two lines. Two lines means you’re pregnant.”
Shannon and Dylan are 16. They’re in love. And they’re having a baby.
In summer 2012, Monkeywood spent hundreds of hours with young parents from across Manchester, gathering their true stories, opinions and insights. The stories they told were surprising, moving and heartstoppingly honest. FLESH is a brand new play based on these stories which follows three young people as they become parents for the first time.
FLESH has been developed with the support of Arts Council England through Grants for the Arts. The production will open at The Royal Exchange Theatre, Manchester, in November 2013 prior to a northern tour, which includes CAST in Doncaster, The Dukes, Lancaster and Whitby Hall, Ellesmere Port. More tour dates to be announced soon.
